Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis

Welcome

Welcome to my website. I wanted to create here a site written in plain English to show you how I think and work. I am a psychologist and a contemporary psychoanalyst as well. After many years in west Los Angeles, my office is now in northern California. With the advent of the Covid pandemic I moved to Humboldt County. Much of my practice is now through telehealth.

I work with adults and with couples, both for short term or more long term, intensive therapy. I see people with varied issues – issues about life, relationships, work, trauma, loss, depression, regulating emotions, and more.

All kinds of feelings can be good reasons to start therapy. You might feel sad, or too often lonely, or have frequent attacks of low self esteem, or not be in good enough control of yourself, or be at the mercy of your feelings about a failed or failing relationship. Also analytic therapy can help greatly with the dilemma of a person "interrupted," that is someone who senses that he/she is not living as fully and vitally as they could be.

I have found that many, maybe most, issues and problems come from troubled relationships. So often the relational patterns from earlier life that were troubling have become unconscious and get played out automatically in current situations. Since the patterns are put into play beyond your awareness you have little control and can become dismayed over the resultant troubles in your life.

Whatever your situation is you have probably tried to correct it many times and not been able to, adding to your sense of futility or self blame. When feelings or thoughts cannot be understood and used productively as signals, but instead lead you into destructive action, even inaction or inept action, then seeking therapy makes sense.

Call me about your specific concerns and interest in therapy. We can speak on the phone or meet online and see what is on your mind..
