ABOUT ME

Many years ago, having already finished my Ph.D. and without really seeking clinical work, I wandered into a job for Los Angeles County doing clinical work with firemen, policemen, and other county employees. I discovered I was good at it and that I liked it—a lot. I had thought I would be a college professor, but had temporarily taken another job with the county. Life is such a zigzag path. So, I took more course work, did a post-doctoral fellowship, got licensed and began my private practice. That was in 1973.

For years I was more or less satisfied with my work, but eventually I felt a strong need to increase my competence and deepen the therapeutic work I was able to do. In 1991, I returned for a second doctorate in contemporary psychoanalysis at an exciting, new, cutting edge psychoanalytic institute. This further education and training has given me so much. It has renewed my excitement and gratitude for being able to do such rewarding work.

Over the years, I have had extensive experience in working with adult individuals and with couples, dealing with all kinds of life issues and feelings. These have included, but are not limited to the following: anxiety, depression, trauma issues, self esteem issues, relationship problems, conflict, isolation and apathy, work and ambition issues, etc.

I have taught psychology at various universities and am currently on the teaching faculty at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles where I once studied. I have been both the President of the Board of that psychoanalytic institute, as well as chairing several of its major committees. I have given talks at major conferences and have published in various journals and other venues. My private practice is in west Los Angeles where I have been seeing people clinically for many years. A few of the details of my professional career are listed below.
